2016 Goodwill Story of the Year, Siskiyou County

“Thanks to your donations I have a job I love.” — COREY

I am the Story Behind the StoreThe right job helped unlock Corey’s potential

As a young adult with multiple cognitive and behavioral challenges Corey Crandall struggled with the idea of having a job. Encouragement from his Goodwill support team helped him identify he would enjoy food service and hospitality roles. He gained work experience shadowed by a Goodwill Job Coach at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions in Yreka. After an assessment period, Brookdale hired Corey.

“Tuesday is ‘Corey Day’ and we love that!” said Monique Dixon, Executive Director at Brookdale-Yreka, noting he is popular with residents and his co-workers.

Corey is thriving as a lunch server and enjoys having money from a job. He also still has time to participate in Goodwill’s Community Integration program where he gains life skills and social interactions with a peer group.
