Goodwill Partners with Family Connection: One-Stop Resource Website for Parents

Southern Oregon Goodwill is pleased to announce the agency has joined a collaborative partnership of local agencies to form the The Family Connection website. Launched in February 2015, website is a virtual one-stop shop for Southern Oregon parents wanting to connect with vital local resources. Parents and caregivers can find everything from crib safety tips to help with a spirited child; from Jackson and Josephine library story times to the latest in brain development research.

The website compiles services and information from a whole village of local agencies that provide supports to Southern Oregon families. “Goodwill is proud to include our Family Strengthening Program, our parenting classes, and all of educational resources in The Family Connection website,” said Shae Johns, President and CEO of Southern Oregon Goodwill. “Providing parents with tools for crisis management and other life skills, as well as mentors and coaches, can lead to more stable families – stable families build stronger communities,” she said.

The Family Connection is a collaborative of local agencies working with the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative (OPEC), a partnership between four of Oregon’s largest foundations (The Oregon Community Foundation, The Ford Family Foundation, Meyer Memorial Trust and The Collins Foundation) and Oregon State University. The initiative is a statewide system of programs, information and support for all parents. Through grants and technical assistance, OPEC supports expanded access to best practice parenting education programs, with a focus on programs reaching parents of children prenatal to age six, and efforts to develop and strengthen regional parenting education “Hubs”. OPEC supports all families in their quest for healthy, caring parenting.

The website launch is just the beginning of an integrated, collaborative system of local resources the Family Connection plans to roll out in Southern Oregon. Felicity Elworthy of Southern Oregon Head Start says “Families in Southern Oregon will have better access to high quality parenting education programs that support them in their critical work. Everyone deserves to grow up in a happy, healthy family. Our communities will be served by a network of informed professionals and widely available parent-child activities. Caring families build a positive today and a bright tomorrow for us all.”
