ROCKVILLE, MD — Goodwill Industries International (GII) has announced that Shae Johns will join the incoming class of members to its board of directors. She will also serve as a member of the social enterprise’s Conference of Executives (COE) Executive Council, representing the Goodwill membership at the national level. Johns’ term is two years with the option to renew a third year. She will serve with 31 other board members, including others from member Goodwill organizations and representatives from the private/public sector.
Johns joined Goodwill in 2011 and has served as president and CEO of Southern Oregon Goodwill since November 2014. Johns is president and CEO of one of 162 community-based, autonomous Goodwill organizations throughout the United States and Canada. Each organization operates the stores, donation centers and job training centers in their communities in order to meet the local community’s needs for employment placement, job training and support services for people facing challenges to finding employment. Prior to assuming her leadership role as president and CEO, she served as vice president of mission services and director of mission services for the Goodwill. Headquartered in Medford, OR, Southern Oregon Goodwill serves six counties and employs more than 300 people.
Devoted to creating inclusive communities that value the contributions of all members of society, Johns is a Certified Executive with GII and was also nominated this year to serve as vice chair for the California Council of Goodwills. The Council is an association of 14 independent Goodwill organizations that serve the people of California, Southern Oregon and Southern Nevada.
Prior to joining Goodwill, Johns held a number of management positions in the health care industry with a particular focus on services for the aging. She served as campus administrator for Avamere Healthcare Services, administrator for Sun Healthcare Group and social worker and interim executive director at Life Care Centers of America.
“With a passion for helping all members of society, as demonstrated throughout her career and education, Shae Johns is ideally suited for moving forward the goals of Goodwill Industries International and supporting our mission to change lives and create stability in communities,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “I look forward to working with her, and hearing her fresh perspective on how to advance Goodwill both nationally and globally.”
Although she was born in West Virginia, Johns considers herself a native Oregonian, having attended school in the Rogue Valley from elementary through high school. She earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Eastern Washington University and her master’s in social work from the University of Denver.
Johns volunteers extensively throughout the Rogue Valley, from coaching youth sports to serving as the board president for the Addictions Recovery Center. Married with a young son and daughter, she has a lifetime love of equestrian sports and spends as much free time as possible with her family, enjoying the many recreational opportunities that Southern Oregon has to offer.
The Mail Tribune ran a People in Business item announcing Johns’ appointment to the GII board and the Conference of Executives Executive Council. It appeared online July 6 and in the paper on July 7.
