Josephine County honors achievements

Southern Oregon Goodwill® Industries honored the achievements of people who are building a better future through vocational training and employment at a Goodwill Story Behind the Store Celebration awards event on Thursday, June 29, at the Grants Pass High School Commons.

Becky Waldon, who gained valuable work experience and new confidence, then made connections through Goodwill to rejoin the workforce, is the 2016 Story of the Year for Goodwill in Josephine County. She’s now enjoying and excelling at a front office job at Quality Electronics Service. Quality Electronics Service’s owner, Dave Moulton, is the 2016 Community Partner of the Year for recognizing her talent and the overall value of Goodwill’s Supported Work Experience program in helping him find good employees. The video below, which premiered at Thursday’s event, tells their story.

President and CEO Shae Johns presented the awards to Dave Moulton and Becky Waldon.

Shae Johns also presented the Employee of the Year award to Victoria Poague, who has worked as a retail associate at the Grants Pass store since 1990. Store Manager Maria Wicker wrote in her nomination that Victoria is an extraordinary Goodwill employee and an extraordinary person, known for her dedication to her job and her commitment to her family.

The Goodwill Story Behind the Store Celebration for Josephine County is the fourth of five similar events planned between March and July in Goodwill’s Southern Oregon region that covers Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath and Lake counties in Oregon, and Siskiyou County in Northern California. The event is made possible thanks to sponsorship by Propel Insurance, AllCare Health, Banner Bank, and Roe Motors.

The Goodwill Story Behind the Store celebrations will honor Goodwill program participants who overcame odds and found their full potential through work, community support, or education in 2016. Each event will celebrate a local Story (client or employer), a community partner, and a Goodwill employee of the year. The events will also commemorate Goodwill’s 50th anniversary of service to communities of Southern Oregon and Northern California. Goodwill was founded locally in 1967 in Grants Pass, OR.
